Haslams Estate Agents - Reading

We have been searching for a flat last summer, and while calling around agencies I pulled a list with Haslams listing to enquire. Mind you, we have a dog so my first question always was whether properties allowed any pets. While majority of agents were super sweet in helping us find a flat, especially some of the girls we spoke to in person at Haslams, there was one occasion which led me to leave this review even after considerable time has passed since. I have called Haslams with a list of flats we were interested in in central Reading. As usual, I enquired about whether the properties allowed pets. The agent that answered the call that time (I think was name was James of John, can’t recall precisely. A baldish ginger guy from my search on LinkedIn back then) picked up the call. I tried to ask about flats we picked from listings, but for any one of them he persistently claimed no flat owner would allow a dog and that we were better off looking for a house somewhere out of city centre. Mind you, we don’t have a car and I commute to London for work three times a week. I politely asked him to see whether for any of these flats there was a building-wide restriction, or whether it was landlord’s preference and we could negotiate over it. In response to that, he claimed that NO flat owner would allow a dog as he was “working 10 years in this business and had personal connections with all landlords” and that he “would not even check with them because he knew they wouldn’t allow pets and we should look elsewhere”. This agent wouldn’t event agree to look whether any of the listings we were enquiring about HAD A NOTE saying anything about pets, just straight gaslighted me. Jokes on you I guess, as we ended up renting the same flat in the town centre we enquired about back then, just with a different agent. With a dog. Before the new regulations came in. To top this off, on one of the properties I enquired about this agents claimed there was a building-wide ban on pets. Funny he should have mentioned that, because our friends own a flat there and have a dog. Really? I am leaving this review now once I have reflected on what happened and sorted out the stress of moving since, but I do not believe people like this agents should be encouraged to do the job of advising on living conditions for your clients, especially when there were way more capable employees happy to help us. I hope this review results in some re-evaluation of how agents are being treated, and this person reflects on his behaviour towards clients with pets. Two stars of this review go to the amazing girls and boys who greeted us back when we popped in-person, but I do hope this reflects on James/John performance review once taken place. We had an absolutely lovely experience with Haslams, especially through Holly Adamson who managed the proceedings for our first time renting. She picked up all my calls and was extremely happy to help when we had difficulty over the paperwork for a guarantor. It was a pleasure to go through this experience for the first time with Haslams and herself and we can't wait to move in!

I would just like to take the time to say thank you to the team at Haslam’s, they have been incredible with both the purchase and sale of my property. We were against the clock with the purchase side of the transaction and the quick turn around to put our house on the market was exceptional. We had viewings the very next day and offers in excess of the asking price at the door upon leaving the property. I must say the transaction overall was intense due to the nature of the chain, however regardless of what hurdles were thrown at the team, we managed to finally get our forever home! On the initial part of the transaction, I would like to thank Chris Cullity for the support in pushing this to happen, on the sales progression side of the transaction I would like to thank Lee Martin who was just incredible throughout. He was most certainly was put through his paces with the purchase and sale, however he never doubted us with his ability and continuous positivity. Paul Hayhow and his team were most professional when selling our property. As It was an executors sale they handled all the viewings and kept us informed from day one to a satisfactory conclusion. We would highly recommend them.

The poorest agency ever! I absolutely cannot recommend this agency! Everything was fine at first and everyone was friendly, but after I paid the deposit, they simply took £372 from me and then constantly ignored me. At first, they answered one call out of three, then only once every few days, then no one answered at all, and there was no support at all. After I did all the agency work myself, they constantly made new demands, thereby delaying the paperwork process, and eventually said I didn't have time. The only question is, where were they all this time to simply approve the documents? In the end, no money, no accommodation, complete scammers with fake reviews. Don't use them! 🤬😡🤬
